Kentucky DB Keidron Smith Looking to Show Steelers Versatility
MOBILE -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will spend the week watching plenty of players at the 2023 Senior Bowl, but they're putting some interest in Kentucky cornerback Keidron Smith.
Smith and the Steelers met the week leading up to the Senior Bowl and continued to talk as the scouting event opened. Now, Smith is looking to put bring the his talk to the field and showcase to Pittsburgh that he's capable of a versatile role.
"Just showing my versatility, I can play any spot on the field," Smith said. "They put me at nickel right now. Gotta knock the rust off right now. You know, I haven't been in there in a minute. But I think I'm doing well you know, just showing I can play inside and out. Me being a tall and lanky corner, I gotta get out of my breaks a little bit faster than the majority people out there."
Smith played mostly on the outside during his time at Kentucky but is being put to the test to move inside at the Senior Bowl. He feels he's adapting well, and understands in today's NFL, the cornerback position is an evolving role.
"I mean the game is evolving," Smith said. "Everything is gonna eventually evolve, and you got to adapt to it. I can end up taking trades like Jalen Ramsey, that's what I want to do."
The Steelers will continue to scout defensive backs throughout the week, and Smith is certainly going to remain on their list. Putting film across the field on tape could be key to his stock come draft weekend.
