Next Big Ben: Top QB Drawing Steelers Comparisons
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are still searching for their successor to Ben Roethlisberger, even if they hope that is Kenny Pickett. But for those who are patiently waiting, hoping the team makes a splash in the NFL Draft for another top passer, one name has been compared to Big Ben, and is climbing up boards because of it.
North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye is probably too high up on most draft boards for the Steelers to make a move. But that hasn't stopped the conversation about him being the next Big Ben. Maybe he's not the success, but he's drawing comparisons to the future Hall of Famer throughout the draft process.
During his podcast Hanratty's Huddle, two-time Super Bowl champion Terry Hanratty said an NFL general manager believes Maye is the next Roethlisberger.
"Am GM told me that everyone talks about [Caleb Williams] from Southern Cal. And all of a sudden, a guy tells me, 'Don't be surprised if you don't see Maye go before him,'" Hanratty said. "He's like a Roethlisberger with better movement. Big and strong, and he's got a big arm, and he's a tough guy."
Maye is expected to be the second or third quarterback off the board during the NFL Draft, which is out of reach for the Steelers - most likely. He hasn't been viewed as a potential first-overall pick by many, but if his size continues to spark interest from teams, maybe someone is willing to make a move with the Chicago Bears to leap everyone and grab him.
Hopefully, for the Steelers, that team isn't in the AFC.
