PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is headed back to the football field, suiting up for his own team, the Albany Empire, of the Arena Football League.

Brown told WNYT that he plans to suit up for the Empire this season, and as early as their next home game on May 27. The seven-time Pro Bowler hasn't played in competitive football since leaving the field mid-game against the New York Jets when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two seasons ago.

In Brown's final NFL season, he played seven games, catching 42 passes for 545 yards and four touchdowns. He's recorded seven 1,000-yard seasons as a Pro.

Reports also claim Brown has been in touch with free agent quarterback Cam Newton about joining the team. Newton would bring his three Pro Bowls to the Arena League as well.
