Steelers Bring In Former Giants LB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting a look at former New York Giants linebacker Elerson Smith, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.
Smith, the Giants fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, played 13 games over his first two seasons before being waived/injured at the beginning of training camp this summer. He was later released on an injury settlement.
The outside linebacker played 145 special teams snaps for the Giants, contributing 11 tackles, and one forced fumble.
In college, Smith played for Northern Iowa and recorded 14 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss during his redshirt junior season. After the 2021 season was postponed until the spring because of COVID-19, he was named FCS Defenisve Player of the Year in the preseason of the 2021 campaign before declaring for the NFL Draft.
The Steelers didn't sign Smith before he left his visit, but they'll add him to a watch list if they need outside linebacker depth. He could also be a candidate for the practice squad.
