Multiple Teams Targeting Steelers CB Cam Sutton

The Pittsburgh Steelers have some competition for Cam Sutton.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers could have some competition with signing Cam Sutton if they don't get a deal done with the cornerback prior to free agency.

Scrolling through social media, there are a number of reporters from different teams claiming their organization of coverage is one to watch to sign Sutton. Two of the primary teams with stronger ties are the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, both of who will be looking for secondary help this offseason.

With former Steelers' senior defensive assistant Brian Flores being hired as the Vikings' defensive coordinator, it would make sense that he's targeting some of his former players. And while Pittsburgh's defense has a number of players hitting the free agency market, none had a better season than Sutton.

The Steelers could get deal done with the cornerback much earlier than free agency, as they have until the end of this week to re-sign Sutton before losing money. The team's last contract with him included $2.1 million in void years, meaning if they don't re-sign him before his current contract ends, they'll lose the $2.1 million as dead cap space.

His current contract is reportedly set to expire Friday after the Super Bowl.

Sutton has made it known he'd like to return to the Steelers, so it could be a matter of figuring out the perfect contract for both sides. His current market value, according to Spotrac, is three years, $22.9 million. Before making that happen, however, the Steelers would need to clear cap space as they currently sit with $1 million in available funds.
