Steelers CB Compares Kenny Pickett to Josh Allen

The Pittsburgh Steelers might have something special at quarterback.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- Kenny Pickett enters his second season in NFL as a full-time starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and through his first spring minicamp as QB1, his teammates are seeing plenty of great things.

Pickett has been complimented by maybe everyone in the Steelers locker room to this point, but the latest praise is a big one. To cornerback, and former Buffalo Bill, Levi Wallace, there's a little bit of Josh Allen in Pickett after his first season.

"I think the first week he was up, I think, was probably Buffalo week. And me and him was sitting next to each other in team meetings. I mean, first row, he is right next to me. I’ve seen him come in and just be hungry and just wanna learn the game. And obviously, there’s a transition period when you’re a rookie, but that first week in Buffalo, I’m trying to go home and get some and get some rest, and he wants to stay and watch film and ask me questions about Buffalo’s defense, cause he just wants to win so bad," Wallace told NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "He reminds me a lot of Josh [Allen], as much as he’s a competitor, the way he prepares. I mean the guy, he just always wants to keep doing it, right? And if we could be out there for three hours and keep doing reps on offense, I know he would."

Wallace and Allen played four seasons together in Buffalo, with Allen being the team's first-round pick and Wallace signing as an undrafted free agent.

Pickett's drive has never been in question, and the "it" factor he carries was a major factor in him being the only quarterback taken in the first round of last year's NFL Draft. Entering his first offseason as the starter, it feels as if that's only grown.

In Allen's first full year as a starter, he led the Buffalo Bills to a 10-6 record, throwing for 3,089 yards and 20 touchdowns to just nine interceptions. He hasn't had a losing season since, and has been named to two Pro Bowls.

Pittsburgh is hoping to find their way back to the playoffs this season, and their chances of doing so rely heavily on Pickett's progression. If he can come anywhere near Allen in year two, the Steelers appear to be in great shape for 2023.
