Steelers Considering Trading Back Into First-Round
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers currently hold the 17th and 32nd picks to start the 2023 NFL Draft, and after reports of them trying to trade up into the top 10 faded, there's new belief they could find their way back into the bottom of the first round.
During an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the Steelers could be looking to move into the bottom of the first round, trading the 32nd pick.
"I think they're considering moving up with that pick," Fowler said. "They realize they're in a rare position with that."
Head coach Mike Tomlin raved about the possibilities of the 32nd pick during the team's pre-draft press conference. While he didn't acknowledge the possibility of moving back up, he did talk about the trade value more than once.
"We're excited about it," Tomlin said. "We've been talking about. The thing we're least familiar with about it is the amount of calls that we will be getting. That's what we've spent our time talking about is how do we organize and how do we get prepared for the receiving of the amount of interest that that pick could have."
One theory All Steelers has presented is the thought of moving back into the first round for tight end Darnell Washington. The Georgia standout has been the only tight end the team has paid much attention to, and Tomlin once again let something slip when he mentioned the tight end group as being one of the more impressive groups in the draft.
Fowler said the possibility of moving up or back is on the table for the Steelers, but if they "pinpoint" their guy, they won't hesitate to make a move for him by dealing the 32nd pick.
