Steelers Could Steal Ravens Star Free Agent

The Pittsburgh Steelers could add a former Ravens star in free agency.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some early offseason roster cuts and, with the massive increase in salary cap room coming into effect, they have some money to play around with.

As they look to bolster a roster that just snuck into the playoffs last season, the Steelers could consider making some major additions in free agency, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. They could even steal star linebacker Patrick Queen from their rivals in the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens.

"While it might seem far-fetched, never say never with Khan," Kaboly wrote. "The Steelers have struggled to find a reliable inside linebacker since Ryan Shazier’s injury in 2017, and Queen would be a perfect fit. With Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander coming off serious injuries (Alexander is also a free agent) and Mark Robinson struggling to take the step from special teamer to starter, the need is clear."

Queen would be a perfect fit for a Steelers franchise that has been starved for quality, consistent inside linebacker play for years. He earned his first career Pro Bowl and All-Pro team selection this past season.

In his fourth season, Queen set a career high in tackles (133) and added an interception, six passes defended, 3.5 sacks and nine tackles over 17 games for a Ravens defense that allowed the fewest points in football during the 2023 season.

Queen was named a "luxury signing" by Kaboly alongside former Dolphins defensive lineman Christian Wilkins, former Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson and others. He's a luxury not only because he'd fit the defense perfectly, but because Kaboly expects him to command  as much as $18 million per season.
