Steelers Place LB Kwon Alexander on IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers shut down their starting inside linebacker.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially placed inside linebacker Kwon Alexander on Injured Reserve after tearing his achilles in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers.

Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Steelers late in training camp and quickly became a starter alongside Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts. The trio of new inside backers appeared to be bringing the position back to it's expected form after struggling to find a solidified group in recent years.

Heading into Week 11, though, the trio is down to one after Cole Holcomb was placed on IR with a knee injury last week and Alexander followed this week.

The 29-year-old recorded 41 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception through ten games.

To replace Alexander, the Steelers will likely sign Mykal Walker from their practice squad. Walker, 26, is a former fourth-round pick for the Atlanta Falcons, who started 12 games last season and recorded 107 tackles and two interceptions.
