Steelers Release OL Mason Cole
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have released offensive lineman Mason Cole, ending the veteran's two-year stretch as their starting center, the team announced.
Cole signed with the Steelers in 2022 and has started all 34 games for the Steelers over the last two seasons, playing center after arriving from his single year with the Minnesota Vikings. After snapping issues this past year, it was questioned whether or not the team would look for a replacement in the offseason. They'll now begin their search.
The release of Cole saves the Steelers roughly $4.75 million in salary cap space. So far, the team has released Mitch Trubisky, Chuks Okorafor, Pressley Harvin and now Cole.
The release of Cole means the Steelers will be looking in two spots for a center. The top centers in the NFL Draft, Jackson Powers-Johnson and Zach Frazier have both been linked to Pittsburgh. The team met with Powers-Johnson twice at the Senior Bowl. A veteran addition in free agency could also be on the top with players like former Los Angeles Ram Brian Allen hitting the market.
With the salary cap being set at $255.5 million this season, the Steelers are now roughly $13.5 million under the cap prior to free agency.
