Steelers Release CB William Jackson III
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing cornerback William Jackson III after just half a season, the team announced. They have also released cornerback Carlins Platel, who spent the season on Injured Reserve last year.
The Steelers acquired Jackson from the Washington Commanders for a conditional sixth-round pick, but he did not play a game. After practicing just twice, the team placed him on IR, where he spent the remainder of the season with a back injury.

The productive Jackson has amassed 5 career INTs with 51 PBUs throughout his career. He was due nearly $12.2M in cash/cap next season.
Jackson's release will clear $12 million in cap space for the Steelers. They currently have Levi Wallace, Arthur Maulet and Ahkello Witherspoon on the roster, and are believed to have Cam Sutton as a priority to re-sign in free agency.
Jackson now enters free agency at 30 years old, playing 16 games the last two seasons.
Pittsburgh has also been mocked to a number of cornerbacks in the first round of the NFL Draft, most prominently Penn State's Joey Porter Jr.
