Steelers Restructure Minkah Fitzpatrick's Contract, Clearing Cap Space
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun saving cap space, restructuring Minkah Fitzpatrick's contract to reduce his 2023 salary to just $7.9 million, according to OverTheCap.
Fitzpatrick signed a four-year, $72.98 million extension with the Steelers last offseason, making him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at the time. With the change of his contract for the 2023 season, Pittsburgh opens up about $10 million.
Fitzpatrick is one of a few big-name contracts the Steelers can restructure to create cap space. T.J. Watt is a candidate every year with his record-breaking deal, and could add $12.6 million in available money.
Myles Jack and Mitch Trubisky could add extensions or void years to their deal and clear cap space as well.
Pittsburgh also has cap casualty options in Gunner Olszewski and Ahkello Witherspoon, which would add $6 million in available cap space.
So far, the Steelers have signed three outside free agents and re-signed two players.
