Steelers Trade Market Takes Blow After Browns Move
PITTSBURGH -- The Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns have agreed to a trade, sending wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the AFC North, meeting the Pittsburgh Steelers twice a year.
According to NFL Network, the Broncos have acquired a fifth-round and sixth-round pick for the 24-year-old wide receiver. And for the Steelers, Denver may have set the bar for a Diontae Johnson trade.
The Steelers are reportedly open to listening to offers for Johnson and have some interest from teams around the league. He's set to enter the final year of his contract, and with Pittsburgh doing their homework on incoming rookies at the NFL Combine, there's some possibility they move on before the summer.
With the Browns acquiring Jeudy for a mid-round pick, they may have set the president for what a receiver like Johnson is worth on the trade market.
Jeudy is coming off a 54-catch season with 758 yards and two touchdowns. While he's yet to his a 1,000-yard season, he's still accumulated 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns in his four-year career.
Johnson, on the other had, finished the 2023 campaign with 51 catches for 717 yards and five touchdowns. He does, however, have 25 career touchdowns and 4,363 yards in one more season than Jeudy.
The age difference may be the deciding factor. Getting a former first-round pick before his 25th birthday and on a fifth-year deal making $12,987 million, compared to a 27-year-old Johnson who's set to make $15,833 million.
Unless Pittsburgh is confident they can replace Johnson this offseason, it still feels uncertain a move will get made. After the release of Allen Robinson, Johnson, George Pickens and Calvin Austin are the only wide receivers on the roster who finished last season on the 53-man team.
As of now, they may only be able to land a fifth-rounder, which may not be good enough for their five-year starter.
