At this point, not many people expect the Steelers to trade for defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. But after two weeks of struggle, Pittsburgh made a splash in the trade market.

The Steelers sent a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft in exchange for the safety.

Fitzpatrick adds needed depth at safety, and could play a number of positions in the Steelers’ secondary. In a defense that’s struggled so far this season, the former first-round pick will bring a needed spark to Pittsburgh.

Fitzpatrick also brings a low cap hit. The 2018 draft pick still has two years remaining on his rookie contract, and a fifth-year option if needed.

This is a move many Steelers fans wanted but didn’t expect to happen. Dealing with a lot of negatives through two weeks, this move could change the course of the season for Pittsburgh.
