Steelers Work Out Former Patriots TE
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking into another tight end option as they operate without Pat Freiermuth, who was placed on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury.
Freiermuth missed Week 7 and will need to miss at least another three matchups before being eligible to return. The injury originally occurred in Week 4 and forced him to miss Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens. He returned to practice after the bye week but suffered a setback and was shut down prior to the team's trip to Los Angeles.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Steelers are working out former New England Patriots tight end Scotty Washington as they search for options without their starter.
In Week 7, the Steelers utilized Connor Heyward as their primary tight end option, playing him 86% of the offensive snaps. Rookie Darnell Washington played 53% of the time and Rodney Williams played 19%.
Washington went undrafted out of Wake Forest in 2020 and spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Last season, he played one game for the Patriots, taking 22 offensive snaps.
