Former Player Demands Steelers Fire Matt Canada

A former Super Bowl champion wants the Pittsburgh Steelers to make a move "immediately."

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada has been under fire throughout the season, and despite a win in Week 9 and a 5-3 record heading into Week 10, nothing appears to be changing.

One iconic name around the NFL has recently made his thoughts on the coordinator known. Former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman discussed the recent frustrations of wide receiver George Pickens, and pointed back to Canada as the reason for the outburst. His idea is for the Steelers to move on "immediately."

"I do agree with Pickens to a degree because it’s ridiculous," Sherman said. "Matt Canada the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers needs to be fired. Needs to be fired immediately. Go get rid of him. He is bad as a detriment to this kid to this offense to even Kenny Pickett, because we don’t know how good Kenny Pickett can be."

Sherman says the problem with the offense and their reason for not getting Pickens the ball enough is simply because the design isn't getting anyone open.

"There’s nobody running open. And George Pickens is a guy that could play old-school. Hey, just throw it up to him," Sherman said. "They’ve thrown up seven ‘go’ routes to him, whether it’s over the top or back shoulders. He’s caught six of them. This man does not have a problem in one-on-one throwing it up. If it’s even, if he’s ahead, regardless, he should be getting targets."

The Steelers don't plan on getting rid of Canada anytime soon, and with positive reviews of him moving from the box to the sideline, it actually appears he's headed in the right direction with the team.
