Steelers Not Saying Much About Anthony Chickillo
No one in the Steelers' locker room had much to say about Anthony Chickillo the day after he was arrested for a domestic dispute that involved his girlfriend.
Chickillo was taken into custody by police on Sunday night, according to court records. He was later released on a $10,000 bond. He is facing three charges including assault, criminal mischief and harassment in Fayette County.
The outside linebacker just played in his first game since returning to injury, but wasn't in the locker room on Monday. When asked, his teammates didn't have much to say regarding Sunday night's news.
"No, I'm going to let coach handle that," Mason Rudolph said when asked if he had remarks on the situation. "Anthony's a great friend of mine, a great dude, so we're going to respect that. Obviously we want him back because he's a great friend, but I'm going to let coach handle that."
Defensive Captain, Cameron Heyward, said he's still absorbing everything that's happened and is letting it run it's course before saying too much.
"I didn't get to really process it," Heyward said. "I'm just letting everything unfold and looking at it from an outside perspective."
Heyward didn't feel he didn't need to make any special comment following the news. Instead, he's letting the team handle it.
"I don't need to say anything extra," Heyward said. "I think we're all just letting the process take care of itself. That's all I can do, I'm not trying to get involved."
The Steelers left for their bye week after minor preparation last week. Heyward said they did talk about not getting into trouble. "We talk about staying out of it [trouble], not being involved in it, but it is what it is."
The Steelers released a statement to the Post-Gazette following the incident, but like the rest of the locker room, they aren't saying much.
"We are aware of an incident involving Anthony Chickillo last night and are still gathering information," Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten released. "Until we have further details, we will not provide any further comments."
