Steelers Rival QB Believes He's NFL's Best QB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers went 2-0 against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2023. It was an impressive effort from the Steelers to take two victories against their rival, but they had a bit of help to do so. The Bengals played without superstar quarterback Joe Burrow for both of the matchups, and the Steelers defense had a much easier time against Jake Browning.
That hopefully won't be the case in 2024. Burrow is healthy and confident heading into his fifth NFL season. After a wrist ligament injury derailed his 2023 campaign, Burrow is hoping to be on the field for every game in 2024. Recently Joe Burrow spoke with NFL.com analyst Kevin Patra about the 2024 season and how important it is for the Bengals.
"Well, No. 1, I want to be on the field for all the games," Burrow told Patra.
But it's not just about staying healthy. For Burrow, he's a franchise QB and MVP candidate, and he knows it. He wants to go out there and prove he's the best at his position.
"I know I'm going to play well when I'm out there," he said. "I'm at that point in my career where I've seen enough to know myself that I can go out there and play as well as anybody in the game. The biggest strides this year are going to be my body and learning how to get through the season, get through practices with my body, and feeling in tip-top shape."
2023 was the second season he missed significant time during his career. As a rookie, he tore his ACL and missed the final seven games of the season. His wrist injury last year limited him to just 10 games as well.
When Burrow is on the field, there's no denying how talented and effective he is. In the two years he played full seasons, he was one of the best QB's in the league. In 2022, he threw for 4,475 yards and 35 touchdowns en route to an MVP-worthy season.
The Bengals are hoping Joe Burrow plays that way again in 2024. The roster is vastly different, with veteran running back Joe Mixon and safety blanket wide receiver Tyler Boyd no longer with the team. Still, Burrow is ready to establish what he already believes: that he is the best QB in the NFL.
