First Quarter
8:22 - Randy Bullock made 28-yard field goal
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 0
Noah - The Steelers started strong with a solid defensive stop on the Bengals' opening drive. That ended quickly when Diontae Johnson turned the ball over for the Steelers after fumbling. The defense was able to hold Cincy to a field goal, but if it wasn't for a dropped pass by Tyler Eifert, this could've been a 7-0 game.
The middle of the field is still open up and the Steelers running game is struggling from the start. The offense needs to start taking risks if they're going to turn this score around.
Noah - The Steelers head into the second quarter down 3 in their best defensive game of the season. The offensive line has struggled to help the run game, leaving Mason Rudolph and some misdirection runs as their only chance to produce drives.
James Conner needs to get some momentum going in the second quarter. They'll also need to allow Rudolph to go deep more than once a quarter if there's any chance of generating points tonight.
Second Quarter
10:33 - Mason Rudolph pass to James Conner for 21-yards
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 7
Noah - James Conner finds a hole in the pass coverage and works his way to the endzone. Mason Rudolph conducted his best drive of the night in a much needed possession. Pittsburgh takes the lead after looking solid offensively for the first time tonight.
Time for the defense to continue holding the Bengals and allow Rudolph and the offense to create more points. Expect more wildcat throughout the game, as Jaylen Samuels continues to play well.
1:11 - Chris Boswell made 29-yard field goal
- Bengal 3 | Steelers 10
Noah - The Steelers defense is coming to life on Monday night. Bud Dupree stopped a long drive from the Bengals with a forced fumble on the Steelers side of the 50. From there, the offense took over.
James Conner and Jaylen Samuels are turning on the jets on the ground and through the air. The short passing attack is finally starting to click as Pittsburgh is taking control of the first half.
The Steelers head into halftime with a touchdown lead and all the momentum. This defense is coming to life and Mason Rudolph is bringing the leadership this team needed. So far, it's all Steelers through two quarters.
Third Quarter
10:36 - Jaylen Samuels 2-yard rush
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 17
Noah - The Steelers are back, at least tonight. Mason Rudolph is pulling off plays that bring you back to Ben Roethlisberger's youth, Nick Vannett is earning his worth and the backfield is an absolute nightmare for the Bengals defense.
Opening the third quarter with a touchdown drive is just what they needed to keep the control. Jaylen Samuels walked into the endzone and the Steelers Monday night showdown is becoming more and more one-sided.
9:24 - Mason Rudolph 43-yard pass to Diontae Johnson
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 24
Noah - Diontae Johnson has come a long way since his opening drive fumble. The offense is clicking on all cylinders right now. Cincy can't get anything started on offense and is ultimately giving up defensively.
This one is in the hands of Pittsburgh, and if they continue to build momentum, they should be able to carry this performance throughout the week.
Fourth Quarter
5:51 - Chris Boswell made 49-yard field goal
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 27
Noah - The game is in the bag at this point. The Pittsburgh Steelers have dominated all aspects of this game, and the Bengals irritation on the field is starting to show.
The chippy rivalry between these two teams is starting to get heated late in this one. Cincy's season is coming to an end at 0-4, and the Steelers are continuing to dominate. It's not a good mix for a Bengals roster that has dealt with a lot of struggle this season.
Final Thoughts
- Bengals 3 | Steelers 27
Noah - The Pittsburgh Steelers have allowed their season to live another week. At 1-3, they'll head to Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that could put them back in the race for the AFC North.
Monday night showed that there is life within this team, and plenty of it. Mason Rudolph played like a true leader, James Conner and Jaylen Samuels are the backfield duo we've been waiting for and the defense took control on every down. It was a game this team needed, and showed everyone what they could do.
The Ravens won't be as poor of a competitor as Cincinnati but they are beatable. Pittsburgh will spend a shorter week preparing to fine tune their gameplan from this week, and take on another divisional rival at Heinz Field.
