Two Trades Now Open for Steelers After NFL Draft
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers killed the 2023 NFL Draft, landing star pick after star pick as they put together an A+ class behind general manager Omar Khan.
But for the "aggressive" GM, the offseason isn't over yet. Khan said during his post-draft press conference that the team will continue to work to finalize this roster heading into the summer, and with two big names having uncertain futures, you could start watching for Pittsburgh to make trades.
The names to watch are offensive guard Kevin Dotson and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. Both are reasonably priced, Dotson making $2.9 million this season and Witherspoon making $5.8 million.
Both have starting experience and enter the league year under the age of 30. They don't have a high standing in Pittsburgh at this point, but they aren't unsignable players in this league, and the Steelers should be able to find value in both.
With the additions of Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice Jr. and Chandon Sullivan during the NFL Draft, Pittsburgh essentially made the statement that they are revamping their cornerback depth.
James Pierre and Witherspoon appear on their way out after the moves, but it's harder to say Pierre has trade value in comparison to Witherspoon.
As for the offensive line, signing Nate Herbig and Isaac Seumalo made it pretty clear Dotson no longer had a starting job in Pittsburgh. By drafting Spencer Anderson, it makes things easier on the Steelers to move on from Dotson as a depth piece.
Both should hold mid-to-late round value, with Dotson being a higher trade target than Witherspoon. Still, you could expect both to be on the block, and should begin watching for another offseason trade by the Steelers.
