PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers were the driving force behind a major change coming to the NFL this season.

With the season having been extended by a game, the Steelers proposed pushing the trade deadline back with it and at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Florida this week, the league confirmed that the trade deadline would be pushed back one week. All trades must now be finalized on the Tuesday following Week 9 games.

That puts the 2024 trade deadline at November 5th for this coming season instead of October 29th, as it would have been under the old league bylaws.

The Steelers have not been active at the trade deadline in recent years but general manager Omar Khan has showcased his aggressiveness this offseason. Most recently, Kahn shook up the quarterbacks room by adding Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a sixth round pick and dealing Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles for a set of draft picks. Now Kahn gets an extra seven days to make deals.
