O-Line Coach Calls Out Steelers' Mike Tomlin
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to move on from Kendrick Green and Kevin Dotson last season, ending roller coaster ride careers for both of them. But since their departures, both players have seen success, and one of the biggest offensive line trainers in the game knows why.
Duke Manyweather, an offensive line trainer working with many of the biggest names in the NFL, made an appearance on the Chipped Ham and Football Podcast with Brian Batko and spoke about the Steelers' decisions on where to play Green and Dotson.
"I respect Coach Tomlin and I respect Pat Meyer, got a great relationship with both of them, and I’ve been very frank with them about this. Kendrick Green should have been playing left guard from the start like he is down in Houston. Kevin Dotson should have been playing right guard from the start," Manyweather said. "There’s this conversation that always goes on about ‘guys need to be able to play both sides,’ that’s bullshit."
The Steelers eventually traded Green to the Houston Texans for a sixth-round pick and Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams for a fourth-round pick. Both became starters on their new teams, with Green helping the Texans defeat Pittsburgh and Dotson becoming one of the best interior lineman in the NFL.
This offseason, Dotson signed a three-year, $48 million deal to stay in L.A.
As for the Steelers, they're moving forward with Isaac Seumalo as their guard and, right now, Nate Herbig as their center.
