PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will avoid an international game once again as they did not land a Week 1 opener in Sao Paulo against the Philadelphia Eagles. The NFL announced the Green Bay Packers are headed to South America instead.

The Steelers were in contention for the Brazil game as they had Philadelphia as a road opponent. The did not expect to play internationaly and now have it confirmed that they will wait another season.

"As we stand today, we don't think we're going to have one in 2024, but soon," Team President Art Rooney II told local reporters at the NFL Meetings.

The Steelers have international markets in Mexico, Germany and Ireland. They're hoping for a game soon, but as of right now, they're taking it year by year as they await their international fate.

"We'd love to play a game in all those places. Not sure how quickly that could happen and so it will be a while before we get to all of them," Rooney said. "But we'd love to play games in the markets where we have that opportunity."
