Report: Steelers Almost Signed Former Ravens QB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room almost looked a lot different this season. Now filled with Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen, the team almost went into the year with Wilson, Kenny Pickett and a former Baltimore Ravens starter.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Steelers nearly had a deal in place for former Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley before he signed with the Cleveland Browns. The Pro Bowl backup was almost the third QB in Pittsburgh behind Wilson and Pickett.
"Huntley was believed to have had a chance to sign with the Steelers in free agency, a source told cleveland.com, but became the odd man out when they traded for Justin Fields," Cabot writes.
Huntley eventually went to Cleveland, signing a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Browns. He's set to compete with Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jameis Winston for a roster spot behind Deshaun Watson.
As for the Steelers, they decided to add Allen instead, completely changing their quarterback room in 2024. They may also look at a younger quarterback, recently bringing in a local prospect for a private workout.
