Steelers Host International Player for Pre-Draft Visit
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are exploring all corners of the world to find prospects that look like the right fit for them in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Steelers are in need of an offensive tackle this offseason and Travis Clayton - a 6'7, 300-pound 22-year old former rugby player and professional from England - could be the fit for them. On the final day of top-30 pre-draft visits around the NFL, Clayton joined Penn State offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad and Michigan linebacker Junior Colson on a trip to see the Steelers this week.
Clayton has participated in the NFL's International Pathway Program after completing a 10-week preparatory program run by the league in Florida. This adventurous athlete has tried his hand at boxing, rugby, rowing and skeleton luge racing and will now see what he can do in American football.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Clayton ran a 4.79 40-yard dash at workouts in front of scouts and has participated in five private workouts with four visits to team scheduled as of the end of March.
Nourzad, a 6'3 and 320 pound prospect, just wrapped up his redshirt senior season at Penn State, where he started 16 games over the past two seasons after transfering from Cornell. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors in 2022 for his work at guard and center and second-team honors this past season after making eight starts at center.
Colson played in 43 games at Michigan and totalled 95 or more tackles in each of his final two seasons as a Wolverine. He totalled 256 total tackles, 8.5 for a loss, 2.5 sacks and five passes defended in three seasons.
