Steelers to Host Liverpool vs Real Betis Game
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will host a different kind of football game at Acrisure Stadium this summer, the team announced this week, when they host Liverpool and Real Betis for an exhibition matchup between two teams from the top soccer leagues in Europe.
Dubbed "The Iron City Classic," a kickoff time for this matchup has yet to be announced. Liverpool and Real Betis have not faced off since 2005 and this will be both club's first game played in Pittsburgh at the home of the Steelers.
“No doubt, this game excites us for a set of different reasons,” Real Betis' CEO Ramon Alarcon said. “Playing against a great club like Liverpool F.C. is a chance for us to measure our potential. This match brings back memories of our debut in the UEFA Champions League during the 2005/2006 season and the amazing atmosphere we experienced both at the Benito Villamarin Stadium and Anfield Stadium. Additionally, both clubs share common values and a wide fan base with a strong feeling towards our colors. It will be nice to meet again in Pittsburgh after 19 years.”
Presale tickets will be available on April 10 at 10:00 am and tickets for the general public will go on sale the followng day at 9:00 am.
Liverpool is one of the most decorated soccer franchises in Europe, having won 19 domestic league titles, eight FA Cups, and six European Cups. They currently sit second in the Premeir League table. Real Betis is a three-time Copa Del Ray winner and are currently headlined by Spanish star Isco Alarcon and World Cup champions Nabil Fekir, German Pezzella and Guido Rodriguez, plus American midfielder Johnny Cardoso who plays for the US National Team.
