Steelers Insider Blasts QB Kenny Pickett
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is still taking heat for the way things ended between him and his first NFL team. Now with the Philadelphia Eagles, Pickett is moving on, but how he left the Steelers won't be forgotten anytime soon.
One Steelers insider, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, believed Pickett was going to turn into a real competitor when Russell Wilson showed up. That didn't happen, and he let it be known in his most recent fan chat.
"When they signed Russell Wilson, I said we’ll find out about Pickett — is he a flower who will wilt in the face of competition or is he a fighter who will battle for what he thinks is his? You got your answer," Dulac wrote.
Pickett requested a trade several days after the team signed Wilson, putting the nine-time Pro Bowler in "pole position" to win the starting job this season. The team moved quickly, sending Pickett to Philadelphia and replacing him with Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears.
Now, Pickett is set to be a backup with the Eagles while Fields is viewed as a long-term option in Pittsburgh. The same role they were hoping Pickett could hold.
