Steelers Interest in Amarius Mims Takes Step Forward
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting a deeper look at one of their top prospects, bringing in Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo.
Mims, a first-round prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft, has already met with the Steelers at the NFL Combine and went to dinner with head coach Mike Tomlin prior to his Pro Day at Georgia.
Fittipaldo said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan that the team has now brought him in for a Top 30 Pre-Draft visit.
Mims is expected to go somewhere near the Steelers' pick at No. 20. The Georgia Bulldog is a natural right tackle, but has dealt with injuries during his college career, starting just eight games.
"Talented tackle prospect carrying a picturesque frame and exciting NFL traits," NFL.com writes on his draft profile. "... Mims has more development to go, but he’s a Day 1 prospect with the traits and talent to be considered at either tackle position. He has a high ceiling, but questions due to his lack of experience could temper early expectations."
Still, he's considered a player with one of the highest potentials in all of the draft class. At 6-foot-7, he could allow Pittsburgh to move Broderick Jones back to the left side, utilizing the two Georgia Bulldogs as their franchise tackles moving forward.
