PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are showing some interest in Washington quarterback and Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr., bringing him in for a Top 30 pre-draft visit, he confirmed at his Pro Day.

Penix is expected to be a second-ish round pick, but after running a 4.53 40-yard dash at his Pro Day and putting on a clinic with his passing skills, he could find himself rising into the first round. The Steelers currently hold the 20th pick in the NFL Draft, and while quarterback wasn't on their list prior to this meeting, it could be now.

Penix appears to be the first quarterback the Steelers have shown interest in throughout the draft process. They did not meet with any of the early-round names at the NFL Combine, and to this point, haven't brought any in for pre-draft visits.

During his final two years of school after transferring from Indiana to Washington, Penix threw for 9,544 yards and 67 touchdowns. He led the Huskies to a National Championship appearenace this past season and was named a Heisman finalist for his play.

The Steelers currently have Russell Wilson and Justin Fields on their roster, but both are operating on one-year deals before hitting the open market. As of now, Pittsburgh is still searching for their next franchise quarterback, which they may believe could be Penix.
