Steelers Missed on Top WR Target
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are seemingly done looking for more veteran wide receivers, accepting their room for what it is and moving forward toward the NFL Draft. They're expected to add a rookie starter somewhat high with their picks, but when it comes to a splashy wideout move, they're done this offseason.
This all comes after they missed their top target. The team landed Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and all-around player Cordarrelle Patterson in free agency, but according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, they wanted someone even better.
"No, they have their vet WRs with Quez Watkins and Van Jefferson. If they draft a WR high, which I expect, I think that will be the end," Dulac wrote in his weekly chat.
"And they’ve already signed two, though not the one they would’ve liked — Mike Williams," he added later.
Williams signed with the New York Jets before getting an opportunity to visit Pittsburgh. The Steelers wasted no time after missing out on him, adding Jefferson to the mix and Watkins shortly after.
They're expected to look at wideouts in the top three rounds, adding a potential starter to their mix alongside George Pickens. But for those holding out hope of landing another veteran, that ship has seemingly sailed.
