PITTSBURGH -- It's no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking to work toward a trade that will land them a wide receiver. Following the departure of Diontae Johnson, the Steelers wide receiver room looked a lot more bare than years past.

The most popular option has been San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who notched 1,342 yards on 75 receptions in 2023. That rumor, however, was quelled by 49ers GM John Lynch.

“I promise you, nothing’s going on there,” Lynch said at the NFL Owners Meeting. Following this news, and the failure to land San Diego Charges wideout Mike Williams, the front office has looked elsewhere.

Steelers Now analyst Nick Farabaugh has a different option. He suggests Denver Broncos wideout Courtland Sutton could be a name to watch moving forward.

"If there is one that could be a bigger splash but feels more likely, this one does," Farabaugh writes. "The Broncos are not in this thing to win it this year; in fact, they might be looking to try to bounce to the top of the draft board for the 2025 season. But Courtland Sutton has the Russell Wilson connection and profiles as the contested catch, big-bodied guy that the team was looking to add when Mike Williams was targeted."

In 2023, the Steelers had a contested catch rate of 66.7%. Farabaugh describes Sutton as a big-bodied, contested catch-forward receiver. Adding a pass catcher of his caliber "makes sense on multiple levels," according to Farabaugh.

Following the departure of former first-rounder Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns, the Broncos look to be facing full rebuild mode. When you add the departure of Russell Wilson to the list, the Broncos look primed for another tough year in Colorado.

Notably, Wilson's departure could play a factor in a Sutton trade, according to Farabaugh. He believes that the fact that Wilson will be throwing the passes in Pittsburgh could play a big factor in Sutton's interest.
