Steelers Out on Justin Simmons
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are believed to be out on former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons. The All-Pro free agent isn't thought to be on the team's plans after the addition of DeShon Elliott.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac replied to a question in his weekly chat, asking about the addition of Simmons.
"Not after they signed DeShon Elliott," he replied.
Simmons remains a surprisingly quiet name on the open market. Despite two Pro Bowls, four All-Pros and 30 career interceptions, he hasn't been noted to many visits and there's been limited talk about which teams are currently interested in him.
Steelers fans have been curious as to whether or not the team could approach him still. According to Dulac, that ship has sailed and the team is moving forward which Minkah Fitzpatrick, Damontae Kazee and Elliott.
Elliot, 26, carries 50 career starts with him to Pittsburgh, recording 287 tackles, 17 passes defensed and three interceptions. He's expected to be the starter alongside Fitzpatrick, with Kazee playing as the third safety.
