Steelers Sign Former Vikings DT Dean Lowry
ORLANDO -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another veteran to their defensive roster, agreeing to terms with former Minnesota Viking Dean Lowry, general manager Omar Khan confirmed.
Lowry, 29, has started 84 of his 120 games in the NFL, recording 266 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, one forced fumble, five fumble recoveries, 17 passes defensed and one interception.
He spent his first seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played 111 games, including 80 starts for Green Bay.
Last season, he started four games before tearing his pectoral and missing the remainder of the season. He recorded 14 tackles and a fumble recovery in nine games.
The Steelers needed a veteran defensive tackle after losing Armon Watts in free agency. Lowry is now viewed as a high-depth piece behind Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi and could sit next to Montravius Adams as the top backups along the defensive line.
