Steelers Take Significant Step Forward With Jackson Powers-Johnson
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking a deep dive into Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson, bringing him in for a pre-draft visit, according to team reporter Dale Lolley.
Powers-Johnson has been one of the top center prospects in the NFL Draft, but has seemingly been low on the Steelers' list throughout the process. They did not meet with him at the NFL Combine and only sent offensive line coach Pat Meyer to his Pro Day. But with the top 30 visit, that interest appears to be rising.
Powers-Johnson is expected to be a late first-round pick or early second-round pick in this year's draft. He's battling with Duke star Graham Barton as the top prospect within the position.
The Steelers have made it known throughout the offseason that they are comfortable starting Nate Herbig at center this season. However, they've stayed focused on centers throughout the scouting process and could have their eye on Powers-Johnson with the 20th pick.
