PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers move for former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is still being talked about, and as the team continues to, by all counts, take over the NFL offseason, their move for a backup quarterback is being viewed as the best thus far.

Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum gave his thoughts on the Steelers' acquisition on ESPN's Get Up, and had high praise for what general manager Omar Khan was able to pull off to land the former first-round quarterback.

"By far, to me, the best move of the NFL offseason is Justin Fields for a conditional pick. He’s 25 years old and he’s thrown 40 touchdowns. In a month, all these teams are gonna take a crapshoot on quarterbacks," Tannenbaum said. "This is a guy, look there’s some flaws. He has to clean up his sacks. I understand that.

"But, he has high character. He had absolutely nothing to work with. And to me, to get with Mike Tomlin and that defense, I think that is by far the best move in the NFL and I expect him to be there a long time and to beat out Russell Wilson this year, be their starting quarterback."

As of now, Fields is being viewed as a backup to Russell Wilson. There are plenty of analysts out there who believe that could change during training camp, but for now, the 25-year-old is set to learn in Pittsburgh.

Fields is 10-28 since being a first-round pick for the Chicago Bears four years ago. Even if he learns behind Wilson during his first season, there's a sense the Steelers will give Fields an opportunity to be their long-term answer at quarterback once he's developed.
