Hype Man: Texans Hire 49ers Nick Kray - 'DJ Kray' - As Top Aide to Coach DeMeco Ryans
The Houston Texans locker room is set to be pumped next season, thanks to the newest edition to DeMeco Ryans' coaching staff.
Nick Kray, the former chief of staff for the 49ers, now assumes the same position for the Texans.
Kray is best known for his antics in the tunnel before games, as he would lead the team out carrying a boom box to pump up the players before their stadium entrance.
To the 49ers, it was a big part of their pregame routine. And for a team with 13 regular-season wins — if something works, it works.
Nick "DJ" Kray comes along with Ryans, who worked with him in San Francisco.
The newly hired "chief of staff' (which will see Kray work as a sort of director of football ops and more) is also a former defensive end — marking another defensive minded coach for Houston — as well as a former college coach, serving as a defensive ends coach for Eastern Illinois, an offensive assistant at Villanova and later the director of football operations for Yale, among other positions.
So, the Texans will get a guy with plenty of experience, but also a hype man in the locker room. And while it remains to be seen whether or not his boom box ritual will continue for the Texans, one can only hope.
