Coach DeMeco Ryans Turns Down Broncos for Texans - Or Has He?

49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans has reportedly turned down the Denver Broncos head coaching position. Or has he?

Everything is starting to fall into place for the Houston Texans and their head coaching search.

Or is it?

On Monday evening, according to a report from the Denver Gazette's Woody Paige, Houston's top candidate, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, informed the Broncos that he was not interested in their head coaching vacancy, which would the way for his Texans hire.

Per Paige's report, Ryans was the Broncos “third No. 1 choice,” though the other two top candidates for Denver were not specified.

"DeMeco Ryans tells Broncos he is not interested," Paige tweeted. "He was their third No. 1 choice."

Paige's report came not long after a source told Texans Daily.com, that the hire of Ryans "will get done this week."

However, less than two hours later, a conflicting report surfaced from CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson, who indicated that Ryans had not withdrawn his name from the Broncos search.

"I’m told the Denver Broncos have not received notification that DeMeco Ryans has withdrawn from its head coach search," Anderson tweeted. "The organization is continuing the process of evaluating candidates, per league source."

So what is real and what is not?

It's hard to say.

What we do know, is that Ryans is a top candidate for both franchises and that the Texans, according to sources, appear to be the odds-on favorite to win the race for his services.

Either way, while Anderson and Paige's reports directly conflict with one another, the question of Ryans to the Texans still seems more like a formality and a question of 'when?', rather than a question of 'if'.
