'Battle Red'! Texans Wearing Alternate Helmets Three Times This Season
HOUSTON — The Houston Texans announced Tuesday that they will wear their "Battle Red" helmets this season. They will don their popular, alternate helmets for three home games inside NRG Stadium, following approval from the league.
Outside of their annual "Battle Red Day" against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 26, the Texans have not announced which other games will feature the helmets, but three dates have the best chances.
The first could come on Oct. 1 as part of the Texans' "Legends Homecoming Game" against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That game will mark the induction of J.J. Watt to The Ring of Honor. The next could take place on Nov. 19 against the Arizona Cardinals for "Salute to Service & First Responders Appreciation Day."
The Texans could also wear their revived helmets on Dec. 31 for their new theme, "Reppin' H-Town," against the Tennessee Titans.
The Texans first unveiled their red helmets during training camp in 2022. A few players made changes to their practice uniforms due to the helmet. Quarterback Davis Mills sported a red visor with his headgear, while defensive back Jalen Pitre wore all-white practice gear.
Houston sported the specialty helmets during its Week 9 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 2022 campaign marked the first year the NFL allowed teams to wear alternate helmets. The updated policy allowed teams to wear a secondary color helmet to pair with a throwback, color rush or alternate uniforms.
