Texans CEO Cal McNair Answers Uniform, Number Retirement Questions

What can Houston Texans fans learn from CEO Cal McNair's recent Reddit session?
In this story:

Houston Texans fans are rightfully excited about the potential of quarterback C.J. Stroud and edge rusher Will Anderson as they usher in the new era of H-Town football. On Thursday, the hype spread to more ancillary aspects of game day.

Texans CEO Cal McNair hosted a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session, where he playfully joked about barbecue, facial hair, and beer. His responses to fan inquiries gave insight into what his team will—and won’t—be wearing on future Sundays.

The Texans will reveal their uniforms sometime before their 2024 debut. McNair confirmed that the rebranding will adhere to the league’s new helmet policy, which allows teams to use two per season.

“Fan input drove the process as we … held over 50 focus groups with legends, current players, Houston celebrities, all kinds of fans, and more,” McNair said. “Over our four new designs, we feel like we landed on something for everyone.”

McNair also spoke about the Texans’ relationship with franchise legends J.J. Watt and Andre Johnson. They mutually decided that the current Ring of Honor tradition is the best way to honor them.

“With that said,” McNair added. “You probably won’t be seeing any Texans wearing 99 or 80 any time soon.”

A new aesthetic, along with eventual improvements to NRG Stadium, can help McNair leave his fingerprint on the franchise. Of course, the quickest way to be remembered fondly would be to change Houston’s fortunes on the field.

McNair hopes his two newest first-rounders can help shape his legacy, and perhaps one day have their numbers retired, too.
