Houston Texans CB Desmond King Sees Return to Franchise as 'Fresh Start' in Career

Houston Texans cornerback Desmond King recently re-joined the team, and he is excited about the opportunity.

It has been a strange road for cornerback Desmond King, but that road has led him once again to the roster of the Houston Texans.

King was cut by the Texans at the end of training camp last summer, and he was subsequently picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he only spent three games in the AFC North before being released.

He then went to San Diego to train and stay in shape, and he recently got a call saying that Houston was interested in his talents once again, an opportunity he jumped at.

“I am excited to be back,” King said. “That’s all that matters. Giving me a second chance here to come back and be with the family; I missed these guys so much. Just to see them doing well, it’s good to be back in a good presence with them.

“I feel like this is an opportunity for me just to come out here and play ball. Not to think too much about it and come here with a clear mind. Like I have said before, this is a fresh start; just go in and do what I do best, and that is play football.”

Even when he was not on the roster, King spent time rooting for his former team, and he has had a lot to cheer about this season with the Texans' current record of 6-4.

“I was still watching even when I was away; I was still watching the guys and still rooting for them,” King said. “It’s good just to see them doing well and being a part of the family.”

King and the Texans will look to continue that hot hand this week with a stiff test against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kickoff from Houston on Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on CBS.
