Texans Center Scott Quessenberry Tears ACL, MCL
HOUSTON - The Houston Texans offensive line was supposed to be a major strength in the upcoming season.
Now, however, Houston might have a problem.
According to reports on Thursday afternoon, Texans starting center Scott Quessenberry tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee, ending his season.
Quessenberry reportedly underwent an MRI following the injury, confirming the diagnosis.
Quessenberry, who was expected to be the team's starting center, signed a one-year $2.1 million deal last season after starting 16 of 17 games for the Texans.
Before his time in Houston, Quessenberry was with the Los Angeles Chargers, playing in 63 games with 10 starts.
As for who will replace Quessenberry, that burden looks to be falling on rookie Juice Scruggs, who the Texans selected with a second-round pick this spring.
“I’m bringing physicality,” Scruggs said. “I’m bringing somebody that’s going to come off the ball every play and give everything you got, every snap. “I’m trying to be as physical as possible, trying to outbattle the guy in front of me. Whatever it takes, I’m trying to win I’m just ready to learn, ready to get dive in the playbook, get going. I’m just ready to go, can’t wait.”
Luckily for the Texans, the rest of the offensive line should still sit as one of the NFL's best.
However, with a rookie center and likely a rookie quarterback now forced into two of the most important roles in the offense, things could get interesting quick in Houston.
