Texans ‘Trash Talk!’ C.J. Stroud Reveals ‘Competitive’ Streak
There are plenty of quantifiable statistics to determine how good your starting quarterback is. From passing yards and touchdowns to turnover rate, we can easily identify a quarterback's ability with raw numbers.
However, there are also certain qualities that can't be defined. From leadership to swagger, these traits give quarterbacks an "it" factor that helps them stand out from the rest.
According to Houston Texans linebacker Denzel Perryman, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud is already bringing that to the table, detailing what it has been like facing the first-year quarterback in practice.
“He’s a competitor, man,” Perryman said. “He may talk a little trash here and there, but he doesn’t do that in the locker room. But on the field, he carries himself like a pro, and he has guys pushing behind him.”
Based on numbers alone there is plenty of reason to believe that Stroud has what it takes to be the next great franchise quarterback for Houston. In his two seasons starting for Ohio State, he torched defenses on a weekly basis, throwing for a combined 8,123 yards with 85 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions while completing 69.3 percent of his passes.
Beyond that, though, he already has the support of veterans in the locker room such as Perryman. Getting that support goes a long way in Stroud's ability to be successful this season, as the team rallying behind the young quarterback will boost his confidence and help him transition smoothly to the NFL.
