Texans' C.J. Stroud Endorsed by Cam Newton as Game Changer
HOUSTON — Houston Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud isn't playing in Sunday's Super Bowl game. However, former league MVP Cam Newton believes that Stroud is better than San Francisco 49ers' Brock Purdy.
While on Radio Row in Las Vegas, Sports Radio 610's Landry Locker revealed Newton's thoughts, that Stroud is a game changer and not a manager. The distinction between the two quarterbacks became a hot topic after Newton called Purdy a game manager in December.
In addition to Purdy, Newton also believes that Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa is also a game manager.
Stroud proved he was a game changer within his first season at the helm in Houston, which resulted in his first career Pro Bowl honor. After leading the Texans to a 10-7 regular season record, Stroud led Houston to the Divisional Round by taking a 45-14 Wild Card victory against the Cleveland Browns on Jan. 13. They went 10-7 during the regular season.
In the win, he finished the game going 16 of 21 for 274 yards and three touchdowns. He became the youngest quarterback in league history to win a playoff game.
Stroud finished the regular season with the third-most passing yards for a first-year quarterback with 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.9 percent of his passes.

Purdy, in his second year, has led the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII. And on Sunday, he will try to lead the 49ers to their first championship title since 1994. If so, he would have to outplay Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, who is the premier example of a game changer.
