'Dedication and Drive!' Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans Describes Ideal Football Player
If you ask Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce, DeMeco Ryans is a great coach and even better person.
Not only does he bring a defensive mindset to the table — and to a Houston team with a high-potential defense — but he brings a different feel to the locker room, which players have already commended.
That positive change has certainly been felt around the locker room, though arguably none more than Pierce, who took time to interview his coach at the Texans' annual Season Premiere.
Pierce's question for Ryans was simple: "What values of a player best emulate your coaching style?"
But as simple as it was, Ryans cut straight to the point in his answer, commending Pierce as he gave his criteria.
"Hard work, dedication, and just that drive to be the best at what you do,” Ryans answered. "We don't want to be satisfied just to be on that field. We want to be the best, and that's what we strive for. That's the drive I'm looking for."
Pierce does fit the Texans' scheme. He's young, driven and already proven to be an angry runner when needed. He, along with Devin Singletary are set to lead the charge for Houston in the backfield, which won't only help the offense as a whole, but it'll also make C.J. Stroud's job easier.
Easier isn't always better in the NFL, but for a team with a rookie coach, rookie quarterback and a long way to go before being true Super Bowl contenders, it could certainly help.
And as long as all 53 players on Houston's strive to fit the bill that Ryans has set for hit team, the Texans will certainly be in a good position to win games this season under him and the rest of the coaching staff.
