In a sense, Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is new at this.

The 2023 season marks Ryans' first in a head coaching role in the NFL, and with that comes a fresh set of challenges. He is not new to the professional sidelines as a player and assistant coach, but being the man in charge is a different animal.

Throw that in with a rookie quarterback learning on the fly this season, and the deck appeared to be stacked against DeMeco & Co. entering the year.

How, then, have they reached Week 18 of the season with a chance to win a division title? Well, according to Ryans, it boils down to his staff, especially the work put in on offense.

“Offense has done a really nice job all throughout the year, starting with [offensive coordinator] Bobby [Slowik], as he’s led the offense through many different guys being in. I think it first it starts there, just being able to manage the roster and being able to work with whoever is available and still finding a way to get it done.

"It’s not always the way you would like to have it, but he’s found a way to put our playmakers in a position to make plays. ... That’s what we’re about, just being collaborative in everything we do, and that’s paid off for us.”

Texans vs. Colts Preview: AFC South Rivalry Deciding Playoff Fate

"Teamwork makes the dream work," or so they say. It's certainly been true for Houston this season, and with a win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday night, it would claim the title of AFC South Champions.

Kickoff between Indy and Houston is set for 7:15 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised on ESPN and ABC.
