Texans Derek Stingley Injured; Heading to IR?
HOUSTON - A rough start to the season just got a lot rougher for the Houston Texans.
According to a report from KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson, the Texans could be without their top corner Derek Stingley for an extended period of time as the result of a hamstring injury he suffered in practice.
Stingley underwent an MRI following practice, confirming the severity of the injury.
One option reportedly being considered by the Texans is placing Stingley on the injured reserve list, which would sideline him for at least four weeks.
Veteran corner Shaq Griffin, who the Texans signed this past off-season, is expected to replace Stingley in the lineup.
Shortly after the loss of Stingley was announced, the Texans signed cornerback D'Angelo Ross to the practice squad.
The loss of Stingley comes as a major blow for the Texans, who were expecting the second-year corner to take a big step forward this season.
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans in particular was excited about the prospects of Stingley's jump forward.
“Stingley has outstanding talent,” Ryans said this summer. “Scouted him the last year and I know the talent that he has… Going to put him in a position to make a lot of plays for us. Put him in a position where he can excel and showcase his talents.”
This is now the second season in a row that Stingley has been forced to miss significant time, after playing in just nine games in his rookie season.
Through his 11 career games, Stingle has accumulated 52 tackles, five passes defended, one sack and one interception.
