NFL Draft Power Rankings: Are Texans League's Worst?
The Houston Texans look to bounce back after placing last in the AFC South and missing the playoffs by making many roster moves, including adding nine rookies in the 2023 NFL Draft. Rookie minicamp is about to begin and it's an exciting time of possibilities around the franchise.
Now that the dust has settled on post-NFL Draft rosters, Sports Illustrated has released new power rankings and the Texans land at No. 32. Why?
I think the Texans took their swing but missed. Perhaps this is an overreaction, but if the pick they handed the Cardinals is anywhere near the top five next year, allowing Arizona a chance to deal up for one of the two elite QB prospects (or trade out for a team looking), it will be viewed as an all-time blunder. I am also, admittedly, not a fan of sitting at No. 2 when you’re looking for a quarterback, as they were this year.
Is No. 32 too low? Houston needed talent all over the roster and filled major holes with quarterback C.J. Stroud and arguably the draft's top defensive prospect in Alabama edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr. It will be a developmental year for the Texans in their first year with DeMeco Ryans as head coach but the future surely looks brighter than dead-last in the league.
Houston has a long way to go before competing with the Philadelphia Eagles, who take the No. 1 spot in the rankings after drafting Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round.
SI says, 'The Eagles appear to be the best all-around team in the NFL right now."
Oddsmakers don't agree, giving the Kansas City Chiefs the best odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.
Nothing stokes a season more than an Eagles team trying to usurp the champion Chiefs and a Houston team looking to be relevant again. And the fun is just beginning
