Texans Ex QB Deshaun Watson: Making Browns ‘Matter’?

In his second season since departing the Houston Texans franchise, quarterback Deshaun Watson may lead the Cleveland Browns back to relevancy.
In this story:

While Houston Texans fans wait for their favorite franchise to get the ship turned around, it looks like the former captain of the since destabilized vessel may get his new vehicle on the right track this coming season.

The trade of Watson from the Texans to the Browns and the process that preceded it kept both teams in the headlines for much of last offseason.

Since then, however, both teams have sort of faded into the background and Houston didn’t rise back up to the spotlight until the hiring of new coach DeMeco Ryans and the NFL Draft where the team made two of the weekend’s first three picks.

While the Texans have once again dipped out of the national spotlight, Cleveland may be on its way back into it according to a recent column by NFL.com.

“The Browns seem to have slipped into the background. That’s the effect of one highly disappointing season,” says NFL.com. “If there’s a last-to-first-place possibility (not named the Jets) I’m fascinated by, it’s the Browns…If Watson can play anywhere close to the way he did during his Texans career…the Browns will win.”

According to the league site this is a storyline not receiving enough attention, but there are certainly bound to be NFL fans in Houston who still want to see Watson find success now that he’s moved beyond his off-field controversies that effectively ended his time with the franchise.

Whether or not those Texans fans will have successful Browns football to hold themselves over, it’s going to be a storyline worth watching this coming season.
