Great Grade: Texans Draft Target Bryce Young Aces Cognition Test
HOUSTON — The small stature of Alabama's quarterback Bryce Young may scare scouts about his ability to perform on an NFL level. But Young's football IQ could make his selection more valuable for the Houston Texans.
According to NFL Network, Young finished with the highest grade for a quarterback on the S2 Cognition test. The examination test how players process and make split-second decisions during the game.
Ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy rated the highest last year.
According to ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay, scouts are "scared to death" to draft Young due to his stature. But the former Heisman winner had words for doubters worried about his size.
"I've been this size, respectfully, my whole life," Young said. "I know who I am, I know what I can do. For me, it's fair, everyone can speculate, ask me every question. I'm going to continue to control what I can control and keep working my hardest to put myself in this position. I'm confident in myself. I know what I can do."
Young has established himself as the top-rated quarterback due to his arm strength. The former Heisman winner finished his college career at Alabama throwing for 8,356 yards while completing 65.8 percent of his passes, to go along with 80 touchdowns and a dozen interceptions.
The Texans are one of several teams who have held a Top-30 visit with Young ahead of the draft.
"I know Bryce is an outstanding leader from what I've seen, and an outstanding quarterback," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "It's no surprise the success that he's had. Just because of the makeup, the type of guy that he is. Wishing him the best moving forward."
