Texans Best Fantasy Football Sleeper is a Rookie - But Not C.J. Stroud?
The Houston Texans were saddled with one of the NFL's worst offenses in 2022, finishing 30th in points per game and 31st in yards per game. But the additions of C.J. Stroud, Robert Woods and Dalton Schultz could change everything.
Yet none of these names were dubbed the Texans player with the highest upside, and it wasn't running back Dameon Pierce either. The 2023 fantasy sleeper in Houston, according to one outlet, is wide receiver Tank Dell.
"The upside pick here, to me, is Dell. Dell has the squeaky-wheel narrative already in his favor after Stroud reportedly wanted the Texans to draft him," NBC Sports writes.
Dell is the 5-10, 155-pound Houston Cougar who the Texans picked up in Round 3 of the 2023 Draft, keeping the local kid home.
His time in college allowed him to total 228 receptions, 3,155 yards and 32 touchdowns receiving over 35 games played. His senior campaign alone produced 1,398 yards and 17 scores on 109 catches.
That said, his size will put him at an early disadvantage in the league, and NBC Sports doesn't expect him to be a fantasy superstar from jump.
"He’s going to have some uphill battle to get on the field in all likelihood, and I see him as a tough roster early in the season. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leading fantasy waiver columns in Week 5 or so, and the Texans appear to be legitimately excited about what they’ve seen from him early in camp," the outlet concluded.
Dell has plenty of competition for touches this fall, but maybe the compact target flies under the radar and makes some noise by midseason. ... a "sleeper'' who might help wake up the Houston offense.
